Key West acupuncture practitioner Dr. Ashley Hoyt's new wellness center focuses on helping patients lose weight just in time for the holiday season's New Year's resolutions.

The holiday season often brings with it a hidden health concern that lives just beneath the surface of the average American’s psyche — weight gain. From Halloween to Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, calorific dinners and copious drinking are constant cultural norms.

This month in Key West, Dr. Ashley Hoyt launches the Key West Wellness Center focused on helping individuals remedy that very problem using the ancient alternative of acupuncture.

While acupuncture is often thought of as a New Age technique with little in common with modern medicine, experts like Ashley Hoyt and her colleagues are proving that theory wrong. And they’re not the only ones. Prestigious institutions like Stanford University, Harvard University, and the National Institutes of Health have all acknowledged the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating issues like chronic pain, injury and weight gain.

Armed with over 25 years of experience and growing acceptance in Western medicine, Ashley Hoyt is aiming to help people in and around Key West experience weight loss through acupuncture.

“In 25 years of treating patients with acupuncture I’ve found that weight gain is a recurring issue for them,” says Dr. Hoyt. “When they learn that acupuncture can help them lose weight, as well, they can be a little surprised. Once they see how it helps them they’re happy to make it a part of their weight loss regimen.”

Acupuncture has been shown to help people suffering from physical disability recover more control, injured patients regain mobility, and reduce chronic pain, all potential causes of weight gain.

In addition, individuals with mental and emotional trauma who may tend toward binge eating and other dietary abnormalities have turned to acupuncture to improve their mood and find their motivation.

Dr. Hoyt says a person’s emotional state is a major reason for their weight gain. “Food is so easy to abuse because we all need it and it’s so easy to overdo it. Acupuncture helps us balance our emotions by stimulating specific parts of the body to work properly. So, we get lots of the important hormones and chemicals we need to stay motivated and feeling positive.”

This is an ongoing focus at Dr. Hoyt’s new venture, the Key West Wellness Center in Key West, Florida. Along with fellow acupuncturists and certified massage therapists, Ashley Hoyt is aiming to help Key West lose weight in a safe and nurturing environment. For clients who are deficient in specific vitamins and amino acids, she also offers a number of injectables that, when used in conjunction with acupuncture, help boost the immune system and improve physical performance.

The new Key West Wellness Center is located at 3420 Duck Avenue, Key West, Florida. Dr. Ashley Hoyt is available for comment or consultation at 305-296-5358.
