Katherine Ninos, Executive Vice President Of Southwestern College Celebrates Her 35th Year With The School.

Southwestern College was still known as Quimby College when Katherine Ninos began her MA in Transformational Counseling and Education as part of the school’s first class in 1979. She joined the staff the following year and has been with the school since, helping to develop programs and assisting with many major changes. This year she celebrates her 35th year with the college.

“It’s highly uncommon these days for somebody to remain with a single institution for the majority of their career,” says Dr. James Nolan, President of Southwestern College. “It is a testament to Katherine’s dedication to both the school’s mission and the students that she has been with Southwestern since the college’s beginning. There’s not really another story like hers.”

Ninos has been instrumental in helping the institution through many phases of its evolution. In her first position as Chief Administrator she was tasked with building a viable business foundation for the college. In 1981 she helped the school’s founder, Dr. Robert Waterman, move Southwestern from Alamogordo to Santa Fe. That same year she also created the Transformation and Healing conference, held annually in August. By 1986 the college had grown steadily and Ninos was appointed Administrative Vice President. Ten years later, in 1996, she was named Vice President. Today she serves as both Executive Vice President as well as Director of The New Earth Institute of Southwestern College, which is dedicated to cutting edge, and consciousness-based continuing education.

Apart from her position with Southwestern, Ninos is a revered clinician practitioner, and ceremonialist. She is also a sought-after speaker in the fields of consciousness and transformational education.

“We’re grateful that Katherine has dedicated so much to Southwestern College,” concludes Nolan. “There is no doubt that her continued presence has had a formative impact on the school and we look forward to her continued presence for a long time. She truly is the matriarch and the spiritual center of Quimby/Southwestern College.”

Now in its 35th year, Southwestern College’s motto is Transforming Consciousness through Education. It is a graduate level institution that focuses on counseling and art therapy. Offering a holistic environment for learning, students undergo rigorous academic work that follows national standards for the Counseling and Art Therapy professions while also afforded opportunities for deeply meaningful interaction and sharing.
