Johnson Lexus' Where Rivers Meet Summer Jazz Festival will take place at Tryon Palace’s scenic South Lawn on Trent River on August 23 at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The festival is the first of its kind in eastern North Carolina and will feature three major jazz artists, headlined by Gregory Porter. Today, she records critically acclaimed albums and tours worldwide. Elevations, the 2012 first-place winner of the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz, will kick off the festival with their unique combination of rock, pop, classical, funk, R&B, hip-hop, and jazz.

The festival actually begins earlier in the day with free Youth Jazz Master Classes at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The classes, aimed at students grade 5 and up, will be held at Cullman Performance Hall in the North Carolina History Center and will feature music demonstrations, seminar sessions, and a short performance.
