Irina Sherbak of Law Offices of Irina Sherbak was a guest in the Real Talk Scripps Ranch talk show this past Wednesday, 11/21/2018. In this show, Ms. Sherbak talked mostly about the importance of setting up an estate or a trust to manage the distribution of a person’s wealth after their death.Even though this topic is not pleasant to most people, Ms. Sherbak calmly and knowledgeably explained the advantages of estate planning and the unnecessary complications of going through probate system in the courts. She noted that San Diego County only has 3 judges who hear these cases and that cases can take years to resolve. California law dictates that any estate larger than $150,000 needs to go through the probate system unless it has been transferred to a trust.
A smaller portion of the interview was also dedicated to talking about the advance healthcare directive, a conversation which was aimed more towards young people who have turned 18 and whose medical decisions are no longer in the hands of their parents. Giving their parents the legal power to make their decisions if they are not able to is hugely important.
“Most people don’t think about setting up an estate or a will because it is not a pleasant topic to think about. However, there if they don’t set everything up, the probate process which will have to happen is going to take a really long time and can become really complicated,” says Irina Sherbak. She added:” I love doing this kinds of shows because they allow me to show a wider audience just how simple and painless the estate planning can be. Not only is it simple and easy now, it will also be immeasurably easier and simpler once it needs to be actually used.”
