The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) reports that one out of five Americans has had a bed bug infestation in their home or knows someone who has encountered bed bugs at home or in a hotel. Bed bugs can lay one to five eggs in a day, can live more than a year without eating and can withstand temperatures ranging from nearly freezing to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to the 2015 Bugs Without Borders survey conducted by NPMA and the University of Kentucky, bed bugs are the most challenging pest to treat. The source of transmission of bed bugs can include airplanes, hotels, used furniture, gyms and public transportation. They are small in size and it can take a few days, even weeks, to realize they are present.
