Earlier today, Meeraqi finally announced the beginning of its new IN-DEPTH Contemporary Dance Intensive Certification Program in Bangalore, which has been in development since August 2017. The main aim is to enable students to blend movement, concepts and spaces to develop the process of performances by guiding them through different choreography tools which will help them to come up with different performances in the program… but it does so, with a difference.
Sahiba Singh, Creative Director at Meeraqi, says: “We wanted to try something new with this IN-DEPTH Contemporary Dance Intensive Certification Program in Bangalore. Anyone familiar with the Contemporary Dance market will probably have noticed how everyone else seems to do things the old traditional way. This is a problem because it does not provide any insight into the creative process.”
So as a welcome breath of fresh air, Meeraqi will instead blend different dance techniques which interconnect students’ inner energy flow with the space and with other dancers. Meeraqi chose to make this move because it believes in creation, ideation, research, and movement perception before presenting a piece of art in front of audience.
Sahiba Singh also said “We want to give our students a unique mind-body interconnection for summoning up a higher level of energy in their bodies as well as in their minds. With our new IN-DEPTH Contemporary Dance Intensive Certification Program in Bangalore, they have a fresh new possibility. We want them to feel empowered through learning how to isolate deep movements by using gravity, momentum and quick movements when using our service. Trying something new is always a risk, but it’s a risk we believe is worth taking.”
Meeraqi has been in business for quite a long time, being established in August 2017. Since Day 1 it has always aimed to set up an artists’ collective and creative space, which offers both professional and aspiring artists an avenue to expand their skill set, and express themselves through their chosen discipline..
This isn’t the first time Meeraqi has defied convention either. In October 2017 when they organized a multi-genre arts festival named Converge, they caused a stir when numerous artistic organizations and solo artists performed on the platform that Meeraqi created for them.
