Search and Rescue on the Roll in Dorian’s Wake

— Hurricane Dorian, the storm that caused massive devastation in the Bahamas, has swamped North Carolina’s Outer Banks and battered Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke Island, beginning its descent around 8:35 a.m. on Friday. The storm moved quickly northeast away from land, according to the National Weather Service.

Around 800 residents were still in their homes when the storm slammed the Ocracoke Island despite a mandatory evacuation order placed in the area. As floodwaters receded, North Carolina started sending aid to stranded residents in their waterlogged homes.

Currently, the Bahamas are recovering after the Category 5 Dorian devastated the islands earlier in the week. At least 43 individuals were killed during its onslaught, and hundreds remain missing. According to reports released by the United Nations, around 70,000 people were left homeless and in need of assistance on Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands. Apart from food, water, and shelter, injured residents are also in need of medical aid after the hurricane.

In these instances, households should plan to have enough food and medical supplies to last for the first few days after the onset of a disaster. Thus, including a first aid kit in one’s go-bag is crucial, especially during natural disasters and emergencies.

Surviveware’s Large First Aid Kit is ideal for family use, especially in times of evacuation and natural disaster. The kit comes with 200 first aid supplies that are useful for treating cuts, scrapes, bruises, contusions, abrasions, punctures, splinters, insect bites, sprains, and twisted joints.

Apart from these first aid provisions, a mini kit containing 50 pieces of first aid supplies that can be attached to a keyring is included in the Large First Aid Kit. This additional pack provides an added layer of protection in a situation where a kit is only needed for a day or so.

Since this large first aid kit is designed for fast-paced evacuation and relocation efforts, Surviveware made sure that it is easily portable. A durable top handle is incorporated to ensure ease of movement and convenience in traveling. MOLLE-friendly straps are on the bag to give it more flexibility and functionality. The 600D polyester bag is water-resistant to help prevent moisture and humidity from seeping into the pack- essential during a hurricane or rainstorm.

Locating necessary items in duress can lead to further stress and delay. To address this concern, the kit’s contents are not haphazardly thrown into the bag, but separated into compartments by use for organization. The compartments are labeled for quick identification and retrieval of the items, with not only the products’ names but also their use and quantity. This organizational system makes it easy even for first-time users to grab what they need quickly.

A Surviveware customer who purchased this kit for family emergencies shared his review on Amazon: “This first aid kit is well organized and labeled for quick access in an emergency. There is a clearly labeled pocket for everything, and nothing falls out or shifts out of place. The kit is stocked with actual first aid supplies which are good quality. It even comes with a bag for personal medications and little baggies to separate meds into, perfect for rounding out the kit with some ibuprofen/Benadryl and whatever else you may need.”

During times of duress, it’s essential to have a reliable first aid kit. Secure your safety by purchasing Surviveware’s Large First Aid Kit.
