“The Hip-Hop Pioneers” is an oral presentation and music video debut of the song “PIONEERS”, by 17 year-old, Grammy nominated hip-hop artist and producer, The ZYG 808, on Tuesday, February 16 at 7:30 pm on Facebook Live and Streamyard, on the Soul Poets Records page (http://facebook.com/soulpoetsrecords)
In honor of BlackHistory Month, the presentation will explore the roots of hip-hop as a folk-art form originating in the Bronx, NY in the 1970s, to it’s status as a world-wide phenomenon, as well as the ongoing struggle between the culture of hip-hop and the industry of hip-hop.
Hip-Hop Pioneers is a piece of The ZYG 808’s research for his senior seminar project for Mashpee High School, where he is an honor student. “PIONEERS” is one of the singles from his forthcoming mixtape, “BEAT LOUNGE NOTES”. In 2018, The ZYG 808 worked for the summer as a busker, playing drums and rapping. Making a whole lot more money than he would have cutting lawns or washing dishes, he used part of his earning to launch his own record label, Soul Poets Records, and released a mixtape, “At The Party” which earned him two Grammy nominations in Hip-Hop. http://thezyg808.bandcamp.com
Attendees will also be treated to a demonstration of hip-hop drumming by The ZYG 808, a world-class jazz drummer who premiered at the Boston Jazz Fest when he was 11. “Boom bap, trap, groove… while some folks use samplers and drum machines, nothing like a pair of sticks in your hand and a drum kit to make it feel right.” The ZYG 808 is excited to be able to talk about and present many of the unsung heroes that created the world-wide phenomenon called Hip-Hop!
