Certificates Offered By The New Earth Institute of Southwestern College Have Been Approved By The Higher Learning Commission

The staff at the New Earth Institute of Southwestern College has been hard at work revising the school’s certificate offerings. In addition to introducing two new certificates, they have also been making changes to the others in order to allow professionals and students greater access. Now they are proud to announce that the changes to the certificates have been approved by The Higher Learning Commission.

“Our administrators and instructors have been working hard to streamline the process of how certificates are earned,” begins Dr. Jim Nolan, President of Southwestern College. “We’re proud to see these changes approved and are eager to welcome students to the revised programs.”

New certificates include one in Human Sexuality and another in Infant Mental Health. The former will help counselors and therapists learn to navigate the, often complex, emotions that surround sexuality and how it is expressed. The latter will give professionals the tools to guide families through the process of ensuring that an infant’s parents will learn about the psychological and emotional development of infants, so that the children can grow up to be happy and productive.

Changes to the other certificate programs are designed to allow both students and professionals to complete the programs faster and for less cost. The numbers of required hours were cut so that it is easier to work classes into busy schedules, and the cost per Continuing Education Credit (CEC) was reduced as well.

“We’re pleased that even more professionals and students will be able to add to their skills. The reductions in time and cost, as well as the expansion of offerings, will allow for counselors and therapists to add valuable credentials to their practices,” concludes Nolan. “In the end this means that patients that need specialized help will be able to more readily find the skills they need in a therapist.”

Now in its 35th year, Southwestern College’s motto is Transforming Consciousness through Education. It is a graduate level institution that focuses on counseling and art therapy. Offering a holistic environment for learning, students undergo rigorous academic work that follows national standards for the Counseling and Art Therapy professions while also afforded opportunities for deeply meaningful interaction and sharing.
