HDMC’s new Cardiac Sonography AAS program is designed to prepare graduates for employment as Cardiac Sonographers. The Cardiac Sonographer plays a key role in today’s modern diagnosis and treatment team of Cardiac disorders. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects increasing growth in this field as sonography becomes an increasingly attractive alternative to radiological procedures. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (https://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/diagnostic-medical-sonographers.htm), overall employment of cardiovascular technicians is projected to grow 14% from 2020 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations.

HDMC’s Cardiac Sonography AAS program prepares students to enter the field through a combination of classroom theory, lab procedures, an externship, and online learning for general education requirements. The Cardiac Sonography AAS degree program is offered in a hybrid format. General Education and introductory courses take place primarily online, using Interactive Distance Learning (IDL). The core Cardiac Sonography principles and subjects are taught in a hybrid format, with theory conducted online and labs held on campus for hands-on skills building under the supervision of professional instructional staff. Cardiac Sonography AAS courses Include Intro to Ultrasound Physics, Medical Terminology, Law & Ethics, Pharmacology, Patient Care & EKG, Cardiac Sonography, and General Education courses.

The Cardiac Sonography AAS degree program is achievable in 115 weeks (morning / afternoon classes) or 130 weeks (evening classes). The program also includes 900 clinical externship hours, enabling students to build real-world experience. Graduates of the program will receive their Associate of Applied Science, Cardiac Sonography degree, and will be prepared to pursue positions in imaging centers, physician’s offices, clinics, mobile units, and hospitals that do not require a certification to be employed.
