This year the company will start fund raising activities for Open Arms Malawi, a Harrogate-based charity that raises money for foster homes Malawi.
"This is a special way for us to support important causes." said Andrew Stringer of Stringer Mallard. Open Arms Malawi is a Harrogate-based charity that raises money for foster homes and Harrogate house in Malawi. The charity was founded by Neville Bevis who went to live there after retiring from Andrew's son’s school, Ashville College.
Andrew Stringer added to the story of how he became involved with Open Arms Malawi, "People in Harrogate heard what Neville did and started raising money for the cause. Now the charity employs 100 carers in Malawi and is responsible for 100’s of orphaned children. HotChillee is a special way Stringer Mallard to give something back."
This year's HotChillee is set to be the toughest yet, a 3-stage endurance course restricted to 400 riders in seeded speed groups. It's akin to the 3 stages of the Tour de France, the event will no doubt test Andrew’s fitness and resolve.
Andrew said, "I have to average 29km/ph over 455 km over 3 days. The issue is that I haven’t ridden a bike in anger for about 25 years, I got a bike recently and I struggled to actually get to 29km/ph. Some people have said I'm mad, but there's nothing like a challenge!"
Stringer Mallard has also joined the Open Arms Malawi board of trustees and has agreed to do look after the charity's accounts from now on. For Open Arms Malawi, this new fund raising has come at the right time and will help them do even more for Malawi’s orphaned and vulnerable children.
"Malawi's children need our help and anything Stringer Mallard can do to support Open Arms Malawi is worth the effort".
