G. I. Tax Service, “the US has seen the largest tax code change in 30 years.” According to Sandler, less money was taken out of people’s paychecks in 2018, but that may well result in taxpayers unexpectedly receiving a lower refund or owing money to the IRS.
“I encourage all taxpayers to come to G.I. Tax rather than filling out their taxes themselves and then filing electronically,” said Sandler. “Electronic filing is not a way to maximize your return, and certainly not with your 2018 taxes with all the new rules and regulations.”
President Trump signed his tax reform into law in December 2017, but the provisions have only become applicable for individuals filing their 2018 taxes. Among the many changes that may surprise people just starting to do their taxes is the fact that although their personal exemption may have gone up, the tax exemption for dependents no longer exists.
