Sylvia Wayfer has announced her candidacy for Clerk at Douglas County’s Superior Court. She believes that her legal experience, training, and managerial skills make her suitable for the position.

Attorney-at-Law, Sylvia Wayfer has announced that she will be running for the post of Clerk of Douglas County’s Superior Court in the upcoming June 2020 elections. Wayfer believes that her legal experience, legal training, and experience as a manager make her qualified for the position.

24-years ago, the Attorney received her first Law Degree. During her time in law school, she served as an intern with the Clerk of Court’s office. There she assisted in the records room, with case management in both civil and criminal matters, and also undertook other administrative duties that helped run the day-to-day operations of the Clerk’s office.


Following her graduation from Law School, Sylvia worked as a Pre-Trial Officer with the Public Defender’s office. There, she conducted investigations and made recommendations to the Criminal Court, supporting the judicial decision to release or detain incarcerated defendants. It was during this time that the aspiring Clerk was able to utilize the administrative tools and customer service skills that she learned while interning with the Clerk’s Office.


Following her stint at the PD’s Office, the Attorney spent more than 15 years working in the field of Intellectual Property Law, where she negotiated multi-million dollar contracts for Fortune 50 companies such as Exxon Mobile, Apple, Wal-Mart, and Amazon. She also took up the roles of Contracts Negotiator, Director of Contracts, and General Counsel.


These roles helped her develop exemplary skills in case management, regulatory compliance, attention to detail. Wayfer also possesses organizational, managerial, and superb customer service skills as a result of the positions in which she has worked. She later opted for solo Law practice; specializing in Criminal Defence and Immigration Law.


Apart from her professional past and current positions, Sylvi has also spent 20 years extending her community services to organizations such as American Stroke Association; Habitat for Humanity; the Georgia Innocence Project; and the Atlanta Children’s Shelter.


Additionally, the Lawyer has worked hundreds of Pro Bono hours for services in Family/Domestic Relations, Civil/Criminal matters, Veterans Court, and Immigration (“GAIN” – Georgia Asylum Immigration Network). She also represents indigent criminal defendants as a court-appointed Attorney in felony and misdemeanor cases.


Presently, Sylvia continues to help low-income clients by working with the American Bar Association through their Free Legal Answer website, especially since in-person Pro Bono clinics have been suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
