George G. Couri has been recognized as the style icon for beautiful area rugs, residential carpeting and custom floor covering fashions. This recognition is, in part, a result of George Couri’s work within the wholesale rugs, carpets and floor coverings arena, and specifically their work promoting strict No Child Labor policies. Each of the premium Couristan rugs have a No Child Labor tag on the backing.

George G. Couri, a native of New Jersey, has been involved with wholesale rugs, carpets and floor coverings since joining the family business decades ago. It all started in 1926 when George J. Couri and his brother Basil J. Couri started, “Couri Brothers,” a direct importing business which specialized in fine handmade area rugs from Persia. In response to a question on the driving force behind their success, Couri has explained how it really boiled down to the company’s ability to provide unmatched quality, durability and visually appealing products moreso than their competitors.

Reflecting on the recognition, Couri is quoted as saying: “Couristan continues to thrive under the creative vision and innovative leadership of the Couri brothers, George G. Couri and Ronald J. Couri.”

In a recent one-on-one interview, Couri reminisced on other past achievements, which helped build momentum towards the present day. Notably, one of the proudest is continuing to stay on top as an innovator of the area rug industry.

In the same interview, Couri stated his intentions for the future. The primary goal for the next 12 months, Couri states, will be creating several new seasonal product collections. Looking farther ahead, the aim is to take the business even further keeping up with every aspect of a very competitive industry.

When asked more personally about how they want to be perceived and remembered, Couri said: “We hope to continue leading the way for this industry, creating designs that complement all elements of modern design while using the finest materials.”

Couri closed the interview by sharing recommendations for anybody who wanted to follow in his footsteps in some fashion, perhaps taking the achievements even further. According to George G. Couri, the key is delivering what the people want, providing designs and collections for all tastes.
