Generators Kenya Limited a premier renewable energy company from Nairobi Kenya announced today that it is slashing its solar power and generators products by cost 25%. “These subsidized costs will allow a large number of businesses and homeowners shift to renewable energy at the most affordable costs”, said Generators Kenya CEO Engineer Sammy Nyiri.

Around 20% of the Kenyan population and less 5% of the rural population have access to electricity from the national grid. The demand for electricity from both on- and off-grid consumers is growing tremendously. This is evidenced by the frequent rolling blackouts, which are caused by inadequate supply and the growing popularity of off-grid power solutions such as small-scale (<30 Watt panels) solar home systems, thus the slashing of backup generators and solar power products 25%.

According to the company, a considerable increase in the Kenya’s energy supply is needed in order to keep up with demand and continue to increase per capita electricity consumption. For this reason, Generators Kenya has discounted all its products which include solar water heaters, photovoltaic solar panels, LED lights and back-up generators with a capacity of between 10 KVA and 1000 KVA.

By discounting renewable energy products Generators Kenya Limited will be able to tap into both the domestic and real estate industry which has been growing tremendously over the last five years. Kenya is experiencing a steady growth in the provision of sustainable buildings. Most developers have employed the use of solar power as a method of providing energy for green housing. Currently, there is a huge demand for solar PV-also known as photovoltaic solar panels for powering household electronics and solar thermal to heat water and can cut down heating bills.

In addition to discounting its products, the company is looking to partner with micro-finance institutions in a deal that would see customer’s access cheap loans for the financing of their renewable energy projects. This move will definitely help to capture the broad bottom market.
