GBRI, an online education entity approved by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a USGBC Education Partner is s partnering with non-profit I-Believe.org for Giving Month- dedicating all of December to creating change for communities in need around the world.

The Green Building Research Institute (GBRI) is collaborating with the non-profit organization I-believe for fundraising, volunteerism and creating awareness utilizing its mantra “Don’t wait for the world to change. Change begins with you and me!”

The goal of this movement is to dedicate the entire month of December to generate philanthropic contributions following the start of the holiday season. Giving month is for everyone; big and small contributions from individuals to organizations are all needed and welcomed. GBRI is dedicating 10% of its revenue from December to I-Believe operations and existing projects. GBRI has also pledged to support I-Believe’s operational expenses for 2018. GBRI staff members Felicia Fuller and Kayla Gerstenberg are actively supporting I-Believe.org, serving as coordinators for outreach domestically and abroad. This global fundraising movement is expected to raise tens of thousands of dollars locally and internationally in support of its mission. “GBRI and its staff have supported and continue to support many non-profit initiatives such as San Antonio’s Basura Bash, Hurricane Harvey relief work, relief works for Puerto Rico, supporting organizations like Camba, local food banks around the United States, animal shelters. Promising to support this non-profit’s operational budget for the entire 2018 year is a huge commitment that shows how deep this passion goes for GBRI as an organization,” shared outreach coordinator Kayla Gerstenberg.

In 2012, I-believe was initially established to assist projects in developing economies, but soon its founder Jeslin Varghese, an Indian national living and working in NYC, realized that no-matter where you live, there are plenty of humanitarian projects that need a helping hand. Today, I-Believe is a 501-c3 non-profit organization geared towards sustainable development of our communities. “Our main goal is to inspire and encourage individuals to be part of the projects they care – be it global or local. Many of these projects could be easily executed in any small town or village wherever you reside in this world – be it the Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia or Middle East” says Jeslin. He believes each of us have the power to make a difference in the societies we live in – it doesn’t matter east or west. I-believe hopes to achieve its mission through education, training, empowerment and partnering with individuals and organizations who believe in humanity.

The I-Believe website lists existing projects users could donate their money and time to, and offers a accessible place to send suggestions for new projects and ways to give back. Aside from the basic information on projects, one will also see a user-friendly downloadable document that spells out the problem, solution and the process along with challenges and lessons learned. They use this document as a transparency tool, also offering a blueprint to help others who may wish to implement a project they like on their own in their corner of the world.

Last year, GBRI and I-Believe collaborated with the United Nations to create a campaign in support of "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” As part of this campaign, GBRI created and delivered free online courses educating students and professionals on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The education included action oriented ideas on how people can take get involved and be more hands on with each of the development goals.
