Water is Life for Africa, organizer of the new Swim from Catalina, announced their Fundraiser event to be held in Santa Catalina Island on October 13, 2019.

Those who want to make a difference looking to raise money to benefit Water Wells For Africa (WWFA) can register to attend a Swim from Catalina scheduled for August 9-10, 2019.

Water is Life for Africa is sponsoring this year’s event, which will cover key issues such as:

The goal is to bring clean sustainable water to remote African villages – Mark is a Pastor in Sacramento and Adjunct Professor of Biblical Studies at Epic Bible College and Graduate School. Having swimming in his blood, as a Masters All American in water polo, he took back to the water to raise money for bringing clean water in deep, bore-hole wells to remote village in Africa. Mark’s blog about his funny stories growing up in Venice has reached over 100,000 people in 150 countries with a thousand readers each week.

The 10 well goal – 10,000 lives are impacted every day with clean water. Across much of the developing world, “Unclean water is an immensely greater threat to human security than violent conflict.” Sadly, children’s vulnerability makes them the greatest bearers of this tragedy. Each year an estimated 2.2 million children die from diarrhea and 443 million school days are lost to water-related illnesses. Most notably this crisis could be prevented by the provision of three fundamental foundations of human progress: Delivering clean water, removing waste water and providing sanitation.

African women and girls – There is more than enough fresh water in the world for domestic use, agriculture and industry, however, the poor are largely excluded from this globally recognized “human right.” The millions of African women and girls forced to collect water from drains, ditches and streams suffer a deprivation that threatens life, destroys opportunity and severely undermines human dignity. This is the problem, and it can all be avoided.

When asked about the reasons behind creating this fundraising event, the host, Mark Dahlin said:

“It’s a 7 swimmer relay, with an escort boat. The dream is to raise money to save lives by bringing clean drinking water to children in Africa. Water Wells For Africa believes in honoring indigenous African cultures and their way of life. They work cooperatively with local leadership to empower them towards sustaining the development of their community.”
