Frisco Health Insurance Plans To Be Affected By New Federal Rules.

Consumers of ACA-related Frisco health insurance will be allowed to apply for certain "hardship" exemptions due to recently announced changes in federal guidelines.

Frisco health insurance plans will begin to see more changes as revised rules have been disclosed by the Trump administration.

On April 9, 2018 the Department of Health and Human Services issued new rules for healthcare plans sold through Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces. The changes are designed to transfer more control from the federal government to states in determining insurance coverage and exemption standards.

There will now be two exemptions for the ACA, otherwise known as Obamacare, requirement to have health insurance. Now, residents who live in an area with only one insurer selling plans can apply for a “hardship exemption.” Americans who are against abortion may also be exempted, if they live in an area with one insurance provider. These rules will be retroactive for two years. This bridges the gap as the recently passed tax reform eliminates the insurance mandate beginning in 2019.

Health insurance in Frisco will certainly be affected as several healthcare providers provide Obamacare through private exchanges. Currently, ACA requires ten essential health benefits to be offered such as maternity treatment, prescription drugs, and pediatric care. The amended rules will not eliminate any category of essential benefits but would allow states to modify coverage ‘depth’ such as number of doctor visits or limits on drug assistance.

Frisco health insurance agent Rick Thornton believes the changes in Texas are significant. “States are getting more responsibility to administer and determine coverage for consumers. We’ll have to see how that plays out in the future in terms of strengthening Obamacare for those who need it.”

Another change disclosed by the federal government was the removal of rule that 80 percent of income be allocated to customers’ care by participating insurance providers.
