Foy & Associates Urges Georgia Residents to Evaluate Their Insurance Coverage

The law firm often works with the families of accident victims, and sees how devastating it can be when there is no insurance policy to provide immediate support to the dependents who are left behind.

September is life insurance awareness month, and as much as a third of the population of Georgia has no coverage in place at all. Meanwhile, according to statistics, many state residents will experience at least one car accident in their lifetime. Foy & Associates, attorneys at law, often see the suffering that this causes for the families of accident victims, and urge residents to make sure they have adequate coverage.

From 1996 to 2003, the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety reports that there were nearly two and a half million Atlanta car accidents, which affected nearly five million drivers. If others are included, such as bicyclists, pedestrians, and vehicle passengers, the numbers rise to 6.6 million people affected over the course of 7 years. At the same time, a recent survey performed by AAA revealed that 36 percent of residents don't have a life insurance policy. Even more don't have adequate coverage. Financial planners generally recommend at least $10,000 to cover a funeral and other final expenses, plus more for people with dependents who will need the financial support.

According to John Foy, of Foy & Associates, "We see how devastating this can be every day. People contact us for help making sure that the auto insurance companies pay them the compensation that they are owed. Meanwhile, situations often get desperate. When the primary breadwinner of a family dies in an accident without an insurance policy, it can leave their spouses, children, and other family members without any form of financial support."

As a result of this, he says, "We fight as hard as we can to get the money that these families need to survive. Still, it's heart-breaking to see them struggle to pay the bills or to find the money to buy food while they wait for the details of an accident to be sorted out so that their case can move forward. Some of our clients feel pressure to accept unreasonably low settlement offers because they need whatever money they can get immediately, even if they deserve more. We also see some cases where a wage-earner is killed by an uninsured driver, and there's no auto insurance company we can help the family to turn to for compensation."

Foy & Associates attorneys at law routinely work with victims whose lives have been devastated by an accident. September is life insurance awareness month, and the firm is urging people to look at their coverage and to make sure that they've adequately provided for their loved ones in case something happens.
