If Floyd Mayweather Sr ever decides to leave boxing behind, he can fall back on his musical chops. Acquitted of assault charges in July, the boxing trainer showed off his voice to Nicholas Wooldridge, Mayweather Sr’s criminal defense lawyer.

Wooldridge’s fourth floor conference room grew crowded as the famous former boxer, and father of Floyd Mayweather Jr warmed up. It was standing-room-only for the knockout punch as Mayweather Sr let loose with a flurry of songs capping the impromptu show with Sam Cooke’s golden “You Send Me.”

The informal A cappella session happened in the fourth floor conference room in Wooldridge’s offices inside the Towne Terrace building just blocks from the famed ‘Strip.’ With a pitch-perfect rendition of Cooke’s hit, Mayweather Sr. showed his gratitude.

The 65-year old was born in Amory, a tired Mississippi town which didn’t pass 7,000 residents until 2010. Besides Mayweather Sr., Amory’s sole claim to fame was the night Carl Perkins starred at the local auditorium with Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. On his way to Amory, in 1955, Perkins wrote “Blue Suede Shoes”. Mayweather grew up in New York City and the mean streets of the 50s made him place singing on the life’s back burner.

Mayweather Sr never did explore his musical roots. Instead, the rough streets of The Bronx turned him to the ring as a young man. He never forgot the musical substance of home, and Mayweather Sr. could now be celebrating on Las Vegas’ famous Strip as part of a glitzy retro show of the 50s and 60s.

Boxing Runs in the Family

Mayweather Sr is the father of Floyd Mayweather Jr. an American boxing promoter and former professional boxer. Mayweather Jr. put together the impressive win-loss record of 50 wins and zero losses. Twenty-seven of the checks in the win column were by knockouts.

Following what was billed as his last time in the ring professionally, Mayweather Jr said Mayweather said:, "This was my last fight. Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, for sure I chose the right dance partner to dance with. Conor McGregor, you are a hell of a champion."

In 2008, Mayweather Jr appeared in a a pay-per-view event in Las Vegas and was reportedly paid $20 for the one time event.
