First Aid Stations Along Mardi Gras Parade Route Place Priority on Safety

Five first aid stations on the New Orleans Mardi Gras Uptown parade route will operate for one week, with another on the Endymion route on Saturday, to ensure participants stay safe during the revelry.

The New Orleans Health Department and the American Red Cross are coordinating several first aid stations along parade routes during Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras is in full swing in New Orleans, meaning the streets are thronged with revelers. This exciting celebration also means injured people - black eyes, scraped knees, and dehydration are among the most common first aid needs during Mardi Gras.

First aid stations will be set up Wednesday, February 7, through Tuesday, February 13, at the following five locations on the Uptown route:

- St. Charles Avenue and Napoleon Avenue
- St. Charles Avenue and Washington Avenue
- St. Charles Avenue and Felicity Street
- Lee Circle
- St. Charles Avenue and Canal Street

There will be one additional first aid station on Saturday, February 10, along the Endymion route, at Orleans Avenue and N Hennessey Street.

Volunteers from the Health Department's Medical Reserve Corps and the American Red Cross will man the first aid stations with help from EMS. The stations will operate at all locations one hour before the first float of the first parade arrives and wrap up their services when the crowds disperse.

Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, and wear comfortable closed-toe shoes if you plan to be in the thick of things this weekend. Carry your own lightweight first aid kit in case you need to administer simple first aid to yourself or fellow parade-goers.
