*Keep Tires Properly Inflated
“Underinflated tires can be costing you a small fortune in gas,” said Hixson. “Not only will this decrease your miles per gallon, but you’ll end up reducing the life of your tires, too. The small act of keeping them properly inflated can be a big money saver, over time.
*Don’t Waste Money on Premium Gas
Unless your vehicle specifically requires premium gas, you’re better off just sticking with regular gasoline. “Premium gas won’t boost your gas mileage or performance,” Hixson explained. “Using regular gasoline instead of premium can save you hundreds of dollars each year.”
*Keep Your Gas Cap Securely Closed
Gasoline will evaporate if given the chance, so it’s important to make certain gas caps are securely tightened at all times to avoid wasting money.
*Replace Air Filters Regularly
Clogged engine air filters can reduce engine efficiency by 10%. Over time, this loss of fuel efficiency can add up to wasted gas money. Replacing air filters according to manufacturers recommended intervals will help your car’s engine to operate at its most efficient, according to Hixson.
