Esportlandet is an established Swedish esports website. It tracks esports events, and its opinions are well-respected. It will be covering the Road to Rio and other RMR competitions for determining the qualifying teams for ESL One Rio 2020.

— According to announcements released by Esportlandet, the ESL One Rio Major 2020 will now be held in November 2020. This eagerly awaited Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) tournament was scheduled to be held in May 2020 but has been pushed back due to COVID-19. The Road to Rio is a Regional Major Ranking (RMR) competition to determine the teams that will play in Rio de Janeiro and compete for the $2,000,000 purse.

Road to Rio promises to be one of the most keenly fought qualifiers with the largest pool of participating teams. The winners of these keenly contested regional qualifiers collect points and attractive cash prizes. Rio Major was meant to be an invitational tournament; however, Valve, the tournament sponsor, changed the format and introduced a qualifying process to ensure that the teams playing deserve to be there. The teams competing for RMR points are in three categories, Legends, Challengers, and Contenders.

According to sources, Esportlandet has assured its readers that it will diligently cover the RMR games, with special attention to Road to Rio, scheduled from April 22 to May 17, which features three teams from Sweden - NiP, Fnatic, and Dignitas. All three teams are in Group A. It is worth noting that winners at Regional Major Ranking tournaments closer to ESL One Rio 2020 will earn more points. In all, there is a pool of $255,000 to be won by the winners of these RMR events to be held across six regions, these are Europe, CIS, Oceania, North America, South America, and Asia.

Esportlandet said, “ESL One Rio 2020, the only major planned in 2020 - with a record $2,000,000 prize pool has been postponed to November 2020 due to the current pandemic. As a result, Valve has chosen to put a hold on all direct invitations and regional minors, and instead opted to have a qualification system. The qualification system will be held through different tournaments per region, where each tournament offers an opportunity to earn points. These tournaments will constitute a Regional Major Ranking competition. Road to Rio is the first tournament in this qualification system. Different regions will participate in the tournament, running from April 22 and May 17. We, in Europe, have the highest number of teams and thus, our tournament begins first - and ends last. Four weeks of exciting CS: GO matches where most top teams participate - it can't be better.
