Guildford ENT have created an interesting guide on Epistaxis, otherwise known as nosebleeds. Readers will be glad to know that the guide provides useful information on how to treat nosebleeds at home, how to prevent them from happening and when to seek medical help.

In the article readers will learn about the causes of nose bleeds, how they can occur from the result of a nose injury (post-traumatic), or for no apparent reason.

You can also expect to find the following information:

How children often have nasal inflammation (rhinitis) and increased vascularity (prominent blood vessels) in this area as a result.

How older people tend to have nosebleeds that don’t occur as frequently, but can be quite severe when they do. The article explains why older people are more likely to be admitted to hospital to have their noses cauterised or packed with a dressing.

The importance of stopping a nosebleed and how to do this at home by compressing the area tightly.

What to do if a nosebleed does not stop.
