The Eutick Memorial Still Life Award, organiser of EMSLA 2017, announced their annual still life painting exhibition will be held at Project Contemporary Artspace, 255 Keira Street Wollongong NSW from Friday 10 November to Saturday 9 December 2017.

As Australia’s only national Still Life Painting Award, EMSLA is celebrating it’s eleventh consecutive year with a new $20,000 non-acquisitive First Prize, and relocation to the city of Wollongong.

The Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (EMSLA) was initiated and made possible by the generous support of benefactor Dr Mal Eutick and his family.

A total of 74 paintings have been selected this year with works from several high profile artists. Previous EMSLA winners over the past ten years include Sam Leach, Laurie Massuto, Angus Nivison, Pam Tippett, Jonathan Crowther and Emily Ferretti.

EMSLA 2017 opens at Project Contemporary Art Space in Wollongong on Friday 10th of November at 6.00pm, where the winner will be announced. Everyone is welcome to this free gala event.

John McDonald, art critic for the Sydney Morning Herald, will judge the prize, which is open to all Australian artists over the age of eighteen.

The show runs until Saturday 9 December.

Following the opening on Friday 10 November at 8.00pm is a concert which brings together for the first time in Wollongong, pianist and composer Elena Kats-Chernin with diva soprano Amelia Farrugia.

Elena Kats-Chernin is one of Australia’s most revered and celebrated composers having written six operas, two piano concertos and compositions for multiple performers including the opening ceremony for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

On the program she will perform Russian Rag, and her much-loved Eliza’s Aria, the ballet theme from Wild Swans, both of which have been used as the theme tune for ABC Radio National’s Late Night Live.

Amelia Farrugia is regarded as one of the brightest stars of opera in Australia. Guaranteed to impart an intoxicating mix of high energy and passion, she has enjoyed a successful career in opera, music theatre, symphony concert recital, broadcast TV, and large-scale outdoor events.

As part of EMSLA 2017, this concert is for one night only. Held in the intimate Project Contemporary Artspace in Wollongong, it’s a rare treat not to be missed, so come prepared to be enraptured!
