Gala Concert Honorees Help Celebrate the Colburn School's 20th Year

On Tuesday, October 23rd, the Colburn School hosted their annual gala event, Celebrate Colburn, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The event is the single most important annual fundraiser for the Colburn School, raising critical funds for all of the school's programs. In celebration of the school's 20th Anniversary, Elizabeth Segerstrom Honored by Colburn School alongside renowned conductor Valery Gergiev and acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota. A distinguished arts philanthropist and co-managing partner at South Coast Plaza, Elizabeth Segerstrom was presented with the Richard D. Colburn Award for her profound involvement and impact on the performing arts, not only in Orange County and California but throughout the world.

The almost sold-out gala, had approximately 550 guests, including art lovers, Colburn faculty and Board of Directors members, preeminent performing artists, and some of the world's most promising young musicians and dancers, who helped raise $1.7 million dollars for the schools programs. Additionally, the money raised helps further Colburn's mission to provide the highest quality performing arts education at all levels of development in an optimal learning environment. Some of Elizabeth Segerstrom's personal guests included, actress, Jacqueline Bisset; television dance competition judge and former dancer, Nigel Lythgoe; renowned architect Frank Gehry and his wife Berta, and opera singer, Placido Domingo. Other notable guests included, Barbara and Zev Yarovslovsky, Martin Katz, Claudia Solti, Lyn Rothman, Marc Stern; President and CEO of Colburn, Sel Kardan, Jenifer Ringer and James Fayette.

The Celebrate Colburn Gala began with a performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall, followed by dinner under the stars on Grand Avenue. Gergiev, general director and artistic director of the Mariinsky Theatre and chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic, led the Colburn Orchestra. During dinner, Colburn Conservatory pianist student Dominic Cheli performed, followed by The Colburn Musical Academy and Dance Academy. The event also included a surprise performance by singers from the Atkins Young Artists Program Fellowship at the Mariinsky Theatre.

With a heart and passion for the arts, Segerstrom contributes to and supports many well-respected institutions such as Carnegie Hall, American Ballet Theatre, The Hammer Museum, The Colburn Gala and more.
