Older adults, 65 years and older should stay at home. They should use telehealth. This is how they should receive the care and companionship they need.

St. Louis, Missouri – April 2, 2020 –

Social distancing is vital in order to slow the spread of the Corona virus. However, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states that older people and people with chronic diseases who are at higher risk for COVID-19 may respond more strongly to the stress of this crisis including:

-Fear and anxiety about personal health and that of loved ones

-Changes in sleep or eating habits

-Difficulty sleeping and concentrating

-Worsening of chronic health issues

-Even increased use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs

Research has also linked isolation and loneliness to several problems that effect seniors including:

-High blood pressure and heart disease

-Decreased immunity

-Additional anxiety and depression

-Worsening cognitive levels and exacerbation of Alzheimer’s

-Even increased mortality

In addition, as consequence of this isolation, experts feel we may experience an epidemic of subsequent depression, especially in the elderly. As the Corona virus continues its relentless spread, it would appear that many elderly are trapped.

However, there is hope. The CDC has offered a possible solution: telehealth. They report that telehealth is considered an important weapon against COVID-19 , and call for the leveraging of “telehealth tools to direct people to the right level of health care for their medical needs.”

The new ElderCareChannel.Com Virtual Nurse Telehealth Program offers a different kind of adult care experience designed to get clients as close as possible back to their normal lives at a fraction of the cost of typical daycare, homecare or long-term care options. Our online nurses interact with elder adults in stimulating activities, exercises, and social interaction with other elder adults online, while getting the supervision they sometimes need to ensure their safety. This program is the first of its kind, and we are looking into expanding across the country, as distance is no longer a barrier. Although the Virtual Nurse Telehealth Program is not for medical care, we can provide this vital service during this difficult time and beyond. In addition, for a limited time, we are offering a pilot program with a free month of no-obligation care for a limited number of interested clients.
