Amazon’s launch of its dedicated STEM toy site has garnered praise from educational toy company Click-A-Brick.
The site features toys for children of all ages that focus on developing science, technology, engineering and math skills in kids. Part of what prompted Amazon to launch a site focusing on STEM related toys is that these toys are currently a hot trend in education and they were the second-highest visited section and second-highest selling toys during the 2014 holiday season, a clear indication to the company that customers are highly interested in these types of toys.
“STEM toys encourage kids to develop skills in the core disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math,” Amazon says on its new site. “We chose these toys because they have clear goals and encourage kids to learn STEM skills while having fun.”
In addition to having age groups for parents to choose from, including: Preschool, 5 to 7 years, 8 to 11 years and 12+ years, the Amazon STEM toy site has an ‘Editor’s Pick’ section to spotlight select toys.
This is welcome news for the Click-A-Brick team. As an educational toy company, they appreciate anything that encourages children to learn as they play. Amazon’s new STEM toy site includes building toys and Click-A-Brick co-founder and Brand Manager Georg de Gorostiza says they consider themselves to be an early precursor for developing STEM skills in children.
“STEM is a hot little acronym in the toy world right now and we’re glad Click-A-Brick fits right in there with the ‘E’ part of it,” de Gorostiza said. “It’s never too early to foster a love of learning in kids, especially when it involves fun and play. That’s why we love this idea from Amazon. It puts all the STEM related toys into one, convenient place for customers and allows for easier browsing of the available STEM toys. We think educational toys will continue to gain popularity and moves like this from Amazon are helping to promote the educational element in play, which we really appreciate.”
Click-A-Brick currently has two educational building block sets available on Amazon. Its Animal Kingdom Safari set was released last December and continues to sell well even into the second quarter of 2015 and the Army Defenders set, which was released in April, is also doing well since it started selling on Amazon. The company has tentative plans to release up to six sets by the end of 2016 and will release two sets simultaneously within the next few months to keep the momentum of its good start going.
