After launching as a Texas A&M student-owned business from Startup Aggieland in 2011, EcoZapp Pest and Termite grew quickly and was acquired by ABC Home & Commercial Services in the Waco, Bryan/College Station and Houston Areas at the end of 2017.

This development will allow EcoZapp A/C Efficiency to move to the forefront of growth in the HVAC, Energy Efficiency and Indoor Air Quality market in the Greater Brazos Valley area. The EcoZapp brand has been a community favorite, which helped earn EcoZapp awards from Rotary 10 and Aggie 100 in 2017. Now EcoZapp A/C Efficiency will have a service fleet to provide Aggieland with cleaner, more efficient air conditioning and full HVAC services.

Joshua Zapalac, the founder of EcoZapp Pest & Termite, started EcoZapp A/C Efficiency as a sister company. Zapalac spoke about the recent developments, expanding on some of the decisions and determining factors that led to the full commitment for this pivot:

“EcoZapp A/C Efficiency was founded originally as an answer to Bryan/College Station having higher than average energy prices. Part of this is due to the area not being deregulated, which drives energy costs higher than they should be for lack of competition on utility services. Air conditioning bills often consume about half most energy bills. We went out and searched for better products and services to cut the consumption while being able to improve comfort levels at the same time.”

Zapalac also mentioned that allergies in the Brazos Valley can be awful for many and improving the quality of indoor air is a no-brainer. “Air purifiers can help improve so many people’s lives, and they don’t involve any medications or changes to anyone’s lifestyle. It’s hard to argue against the immediate and long-term benefits.”

Part of the vision for the company is to increase the quality of indoor air, which not only reduces allergies but also bad odors including smoke smell, airborne germs, mold spores and VOC’s. Due to the flooding in Houston from Harvey in 2017, allergies and mold spores are projected to drastically increase for most of the next decade in the Houston area.

Committed to providing a more efficient HVAC service, EcoZapp A/C Efficiency has invested to become private label Goodman manufacturing distributors, which gives access to higher efficiency equipment and new systems. Zapalac shared, “Why more companies don’t offer higher efficiency equipment puzzles me, and this has created a huge void in the market. We’re simply going to service this demand. Providing some of the best warranties in the industry is another huge advantage we’ve discovered many people base their purchasing decisions on.”
