Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA – August 16, 2018: ECI’s CEO, John S. Copanos, and the company’s VP of Commercial Operations, Ellen Gettenberg, launched the fundraising drive for a charity in Masaka, Uganda – Orphanage of the Little Lambs and Other Vulnerable Children. ECI’s staff donated gently used or new clothing and financial contributions for education services.
Ellen Gettenberg explained, “We chose to support the Orphanage of the Little Lambs after speaking with its Director, Ssenabulya Geofrey Usherssena. We learned that in Uganda there are very limited resources to care for orphans. ECI already supports charities for children in South Florida so why not extend our support beyond our borders?”
Uganda, with a population of 41.49 million, is a country devasted by poverty, droughts, large-scale unemployment, and deteriorating human rights. There are inadequate accommodations from limited medical care to safe drinking water and lack of funding for education. ECI Pharmaceuticals chose to focus its support on education. As part of the “Back to School” drive, the orphans at Little Lambs Orphanage will be able to pay for registration fees required for student PLE exams as well as other necessities.
