Original Art Boards Auction Set to Benefit Campaign Zero

Renowned Brooklyn artist Voodo Fé, founder of The Spot for Art, and designer and wood craftsman Del Hawbaker II of Black Barn LLC today announced the launch of the Boards for Solidarity, a collaboration of iconic one of a kind skate decks to benefit Campaign Zero. Three art boards will be raffled on RallyUp.com with a goal of raising $10,000. Tickets for a chance to win one of these unique decks are available starting at $10 each.

The two former colleagues and longtime friends — one Black, one White — had visceral reactions to the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and the overall injustice against Black people. They channelled their pain, anger and frustration into a distinctive art project for change, always with the goal of donating sales proceeds to a movement fighting for racial justice and ending police violence.

Hawbaker, an art director, wood craftsman and action sports athlete, was moved to sculpt Black power fists into skateboard decks, which he often repurposes into artistic expressions in his Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, studio barn. “The raised fist is a powerful symbol that speaks to solidarity with and strength of the Black community,” Hawbaker says. “The decks lend themselves perfectly as canvases to Voodo’s iconic graffiti-inspired art.”

At The Spot for Art, Voodo Fé was immediately thrust back to his encounters with police as he watched the George Floyd video. “I’ve been pulled out of cars by cops and had a knee in my back with a gun to my head, and I was reminded of the fear and anger I felt when I saw it happen to George.”

The self-described Art Scientist says: “I speak the loudest through my art, and when Del hit me with the idea of the boards, it just felt like the right thing to do.”

Boards for Solidarity feature paintings of: a) A pained protestor crying out for justice, b) The late George Floyd, and c) Love as represented through an innocent child and a heart.

The auction will run for 10 days and proceeds will benefit Campaign Zero.
