Dr. Daniel Sambursky is an ophthalmologist in New York’s Southern Tier who now offers cross-linking treatment for progressive keratoconus and corneal ectasia.

JOHNSON CITY, NY – NOVEMBER 16, 2018 – Dr. Daniel Sambursky, of Ophthalmic Associates of the Southern Tier, now offers cross-linking treatment for progressive keratoconus and corneal ectasia with Avedro, a world leader in corneal remodeling. This treatment is the first and only United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved procedure for keratoconus and corneal ectasia, two progressive eye disorders that can result from refractive eye surgery. Dr. Sambursky offers cross-linking treatment using Avedro’s Photrexa products and the KXL System to strengthen the corneas that have been weakened by a disorder or refractive surgery.

“Corneal cross-linking is beneficial to my patients because it offers them a therapeutic option to limit the progression of keratoconus and ectasia,” says Dr. Sambursky. “The FDA approval of corneal cross-linking with Photrexa products and the KXL System offers new treatment options for appropriate patients who, until now, had few options to help with their vision challenges.

This cross-linking treatment combines the use of ultraviolet (UV) light and riboflavin eye drops. By using Avedro’s Photrexa products and KXL System, Dr. Sambursky can successfully create new corneal collagen cross-links, resulting in a shortening and thickening of collagen fibrils, which strengthens the cornea. “Early diagnosis is critical and allows patients to be treated at the onset of the disease,” states Dr. Sambursky. “Patients suffering from progressive keratoconus and corneal ectasia following refractive surgery can now receive a therapeutic treatment that has been rigorously tested and approved.”
