Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Available Through New, Online Course Reduces Parasuicidal Behavior

Individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder can replace damaged relationships and guilt with more suitable reactions.

Many people lash out on their loved ones, resulting in them beating themselves up with guilt. Access to Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) groups are limited and result in long waitlists with most not qualifying for enrollment because they can only take the most severe clients.

Richelle Futch, MSW developer of this new online course has created access for people who would otherwise be waitlisted.

“The goal of this training is to decrease interpersonal chaos, Labile affect, impulsiveness, and confusion about self,” says Futch. “This training teaches them to understand their emotions, have more effective responses, and replace guilt with a more appropriate emotion.”

Richelle’s online course is designed to help people who fly off the handle and lash out at their loved ones resulting in overwhelming guilt and damaged relationships.

Jerold J. Kreisman, author of I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me: Understanding the Borderline Personality, describes what it’s like living with Borderline Personality Disorder.

“Borderlines typically respond to depression, anxiety, frustration, or anger with more layers of these same feelings,” says Kreisman. “Because of the borderline’s perfectionism and tendency to perceive things in black-and-white extremes, he attempts to obliterate unpleasant feelings rather than understand or cope with them. When he finds that he cannot simply erase these bad feelings, he becomes even more frustrated or guilty. Since feeling bad is unacceptable, he feels bad about feeling bad. When this makes him feel worse, he becomes caught in a seemingly bottomless downward spiral.”

Richelle’s mission is to help individuals avoid those downward spirals by giving access to people who need help and are unable to get support through traditional ways.

Currently Richelle has limited individual clients and is focusing her efforts on coaching her online skills training clients. Richelle is currently enrolling for her next rounds of skills training on her website.
