The staycation boom in the UK this summer led to record bookings at travel firm Scotts Castle Holidays for its large group houses, cottages and castles.

UK travel company Scotts Castle Holidays saw demand for large holiday homes reach an all time high this summer, as people scrambled for a post-lockdown getaway in beautiful locations around the country.

The company, which specialises in large occupancy houses sleeping eight or more people, says website visitors and enquiries quadrupled over two months as people searched for big group accommodation for their holiday at home.

The staycation boom helped to increase visits to scottscastles.com by almost 300% from an average of 220 users per day in early June to 875 in early August.

Like many other travel businesses, Scotts Castle Holidays was inundated with bookings and enquiries from people who wanted to get away with family and friends once restrictions eased at the start of July.

The growth in demand began after 19th June when the Government announced that UK residents could travel for overnight stays and two households could meet again from early July.

With restrictions still in place on holidays abroad, there was a rush for the limited stock of large houses available for holidays in the UK.

Website traffic for Scotts Castle Holidays peaked at 1,524 users on 2nd August, which made it the busiest day in the company’s history.

Managing director Mat Filewood commented: “We had an intense couple of weeks when it seemed like the whole of the country was looking for a place to stay. Luckily we were able to accommodate a large number of big families in beautiful holiday homes in England, Scotland and Wales.”

The company promotes hundreds of properties suitable for group holidays, ranging from big cottages and mansions, up to large country estates and scenic castles.

Mat Filewood continued: “It’s always busy in the summer but this year was something else. The combination of restrictions on foreign travel, sunny weather and the desire to get away from it all on holiday after lockdown all helped to create the perfect storm.

“We all thought UK holidays would do well this year, but we were astounded by just how busy we were during the peak weeks of August.”

Following a busy summer, the company says it is now getting solid bookings for the rest of the year and plenty of early bookings for 2021.
