Cross Contemporary Partners and curator Jen Dragon present Dellamarie Parrilli: Up Close and Colorful, a virtual exhibition of 25 stunning paintings running through July 30, 2021.
— This brand new solo exhibition by a painter routinely recognized as one of the most talented contemporary artists of her generation contains 25 separate artworks that will be displayed in a virtual gallery, enabling art lovers from around the world to enjoy the work from the comfort of their own homes. With over 250 feet of wall space and towering 20-foot ceilings, there is nothing small or timid about this impressive exhibition (especially taking into consideration the addition of two large-scale 17 and a half foot pieces of art); the colors and the emotions are as bright and as raw as they would be in person.
The coronavirus pandemic has meant that the virtual world has become more and more important, and it has forced artists and others to think of new ways to portray their work. A virtual art exhibition might have been impossible just a few years ago, but now it is ideal for the time and the world we are living in, and the technology to showcase each individual piece of art in its true glory exists to make it happen.
Dellamarie Parrilli’s work reflects this. Each painting is a demonstration of how resilient the human spirit can be, and how, even in the face of great hardship and constraints, beauty can grow. The uniting energy behind each of the works being shown in the Up Close & Colorful virtual exhibition is the emotional difficulties of quarantine. But far from being maudlin and introspective, these works of art prove that the human spirit can go on, no matter what challenges and hardships are thrown its way. We have all had to persevere through adversity, and this has made us stronger, more positive, and has ultimately given us more power. Parrilli is telling us that, although we might have been limited, we found new ways to be infinite. The fact that much of this was achieved through digital technology adds another layer to the art, and it seems only fitting that it can now be enjoyed in a virtual exhibition.
Dellamarie Parrilli’s work is admired around the world as a celebration of life, of nature, of expression, and of art itself. As art writer Jonathan Goodman says, “[Parrilli's] art looks to an implicit merger between individualized components of painting and the nearly excessive beauty of nature.”
