Dads' Resource Center Introduces Much-Needed Resources For Single Fathers

Share this news:

Their team aims to help single fathers be active participants in the lives of their children after separation and divorce, reports dadsrc.org.

The Dads’ Resource Center (DRC) promotes the well-being and healthy development of children in separated families by supporting fathers’ efforts to be fully engaged in the lives of their sons and daughters. At its core, the Dads’ Resource Center is a children’s advocacy organization with the aim of ensuring that children have the appropriate involvement and contribution from both parents.

Single dads sometimes encounter barriers and even biases during the course of the custody process. The DRC provides education, resources, and advocacy to help fathers overcome these obstacles. It works constructively, including within civil, legal, government, and human service systems to enable fathers to play the role their children need.

Most fathers are more than willing to do their part. A 2015 Pew Research survey found that fathers derive an equal or greater sense of identity, enjoyment, and reward from parenting as do mothers. The Dads Resource Center believes that society, the courts, and social agencies have an obligation to ensure that fathers have an equal opportunity to provide the time, input, and emotional and financial support that their children require and deserve.

Involved Fathers Equals More Success, Less Problems for Children

Children who maintain healthy relationships with both parents following their separation experience better adjustment and more positives rates of development. The involvement they need from fathers includes quality time, guidance, being a positive role model, effective co-parenting, and helping with financial support.

Statistics provided by the Child & Research Partnership at the University of Texas at Austin LBJ School of Public Affairs show that children that grow up with involved fathers are:

39% more likely to earn mostly as in school.

45% less likely to repeat a grade.

60% less likely to be suspended or expelled from school.

75% less likely to have a teen birth.

80% less likely to spend time in jail.

Twice as likely to go to college and find stable employment after high school.

About The Dads’ Resource Center:

AccuWeather founder and President Dr. Joel N. Myers established the Dads’ Resource Center with its first chapter in Centre County, Pennsylvania in 2015.

“This endeavor is something I have thought about for a long time,” Myers said. “Because there appears to be no resource or place for fathers to seek support for the challenges of being a good father and providing help in dealing with that bias toward single fathers that they sometimes may encounter.

“We need to celebrate good fathers who make their children a priority, help fathers who have the commitment but may lack all of the know how to do this, and we want to empower fathers to seek equitable and beneficial custody agreements that allow them to fulfill their proper roles in their children’s lives.

“In the end, it’s all about the children.”

The Dads’ Resource Center welcomes the opportunity to engage with any organization that wants to support the success of single fathers or may be interested in establishing new chapters in other locations. For more information, go to dadsrc.org.
