The Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program launched a GoFundMe campaign that allows anyone who cares about marine conservation to help restore the beautiful, fragile reef ecosystem in the island of Cozumel.

More information is available at http://ccrrp.org.

The Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program is a non-profit organization created by Dr. German Mendez and other passionate marine biologists to help restore the Cozumel coral reefs and promote the conservation of this unique reef ecosystem heavily affected by human activities and storms.

The organization announced it is now running a GoFundMe campaign allowing anyone who is passionate about marine conservation to help save these fragile coral reefs, which are part of the second largest barrier reef system in the world and home to many species not found anywhere else on earth.

The funds raised with the campaign will revert towards a dive shop, a boat and the diving equipment the organization requires to keep restoring the reef ecosystem in the island and the costs of farming the corals which will be replanted.

This campaign plays an integral role in CCRRP’s efforts to save one of the most important, beautiful and famous coral reef systems in the world and joins the various coral adoption initiatives or popular coral reef restoration courses it has been offering all those who want to help since 2013.

The CCRRP team explains that “we are a non-profit group of volunteers completely devoted to the restoration of Mexico’s coral reef system and we need everyone’s help in our effort to bring back this incredibly beautiful reef system, which unfortunately has been heavily damaged by the cruise ship traffic in the island over the last 20 years.”
