Pugs make Valentines Day sweeter thanks to a girls contest submission and a well known candy maker choosing it to be featured.

This years release of the heart shaped candies that everybody knows and loves has something a little extra special packed inside.

In a contest put on by one of everyone’s favorite candy makers, The New England Confectionery Company, a young girl from California was one of three that were chosen to have their words placed on the candies for all to see. Her words, “Pugs and Kittens” made this seasons list of phrases that will be in this seasons packages and ready to give out for Valentine’s Day.

When the company contacted the animal loving girl about being chosen as one of the winners, she said it blew her mind. The 11 year old, that was being home schooled due to health concerns, loves animals and hopes that the message that she had chosen will remind everyone to love their pets and consider rescuing a dog.

She has since been allowed to return to school, thanks to her improved health, and says that she will share some of the 5 pounds of the candy hearts that are part of her winnings with her grade six classmates this Valentine’s Day as well as give her dogs some treats of their own.

After being announced one of the winners and claiming her winnings, this compassionate girl took some of her $1000 winnings and went to an all day rescue mission with her mom where she retrieved a Westie puppy from a shelter proving that the decision to have her chosen as one of the winners was a beneficial one.

Thanks to the clever animal themed spin on the words “hugs and kisses”, this young girl, and the whole candy loving community, can look back and recall the time when “animals got into the sweets” and made it a sweeter place.
