The idea for the folding murphy desk came about after the founder of Veteran Custom Furniture, Steven McKeon, realized their was a growing need for a piece of furniture that allowed for a child to have a desk while maximizing the amount of space available in the the child’s bedroom. The desks come with a large fold-out surface perfect for making crafts, storing items, or completing homework assignments. When not needed, the desk conveniently folds up to free up valuable bedroom real estate that is lost to traditional desks.
The purchaser of the murphy desk is able to customize the installation height of the desk so that the desk is able to grow with the child through all stages of childhood and adolescence. As with all their furniture, the murphy folding desk is constructed of solid wood and heavy duty hardware and can be stained to the purchaser’s preferences.
The murphy desk is being released as part of Veteran Custom Furniture’s greater plans to continue building furniture for children that is functional, safe, and stylish while at the same time providing military veterans with an opportunity to learn a marketable skill while transitioning to civilian life.
Veteran Custom Furniture got its start when Founder Steven McKeon built furniture for his own children and started receiving requests from friends and neighbors to build furniture for their children. At the same time, Mr. McKeon was also working with the The Rothenbuehler Foundation, which works with veterans who are having difficulties finding work after their time in the service. Mr. McKeon recognized he could combine both passions and fill voids in both areas.
