The non-profit’s newly updated curriculums are effective, teacher-friendly, and ready to implement so educators can teach about the importance of mental health issues at their convenience.

One out of six individuals between the ages of 6 and 17 experience a mental health disorder every year and half of all lifetime mental illnesses start by the age of 14.

The “Learning2Live” curriculum aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness while educating others on the topic. It offers courses containing information on bipolar disorder, depression, suicide prevention, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, and ODD. It also contains modules on eating disorders, non-suicidal self-injury, and substance abuse. The cost for this course is $599 per year per instructor.

The organization’s “2Tough2Bully” curriculum is designed to help motivate people to speak up and act against bullying. The goal is to teach others to develop internal toughness, so they do not bully others or allow themselves to be bullied. Instructors will receive lesson plans, surveys, videos, presentations, and group discussion guides. The cost for this course is $299 per year per instructor.

Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago was founded in 1957 following the tenants of Clifford Beers. He experienced mental health issues throughout his life which resulted in his passion for improving mental health services. The organization is the leading national resource provider that promotes brain and health and develops strategies towards individual mental wellness.

A satisfied client said: “The education is crucial for our teens and families in our communities. I wish MHAGC provided their programs in the schools when I was in high school. It is truly needed. They work so hard to make a difference and they do. I also like that they teach about maintaining and protecting your mental health.”
