2. Do not think about having implants if you have active gum disease. Dr Murray says ” The same bacteria that cause gum disease can also cause implants to fail. To avoid huge disappointment first invest in a course of periodontal (gum) treatment to get the problem under control, implants may then be used if you commit to keeping up excellent oral hygiene.”
3. Certain medical conditions can affect implants. Pete says” Diabetes can be a complication but this can generally be managed, however if certain medications are taken then they must be stopped if implants are to be placed. An implantologist will be able to help you with this”
4. Implants may not always be the best solution ” You should talk through all your options with your dentist,in some cases conventional treatments such a bridgework may be better for you”
