In December 2017, longtime Batavia dentist Dr. Ronald A. Murphy, DMD and his wife, Sarah Murphy, received the award “GOLDEN CONTRIBUTOR” for becoming the top contributor to the USMC Toys for Tots Literacy Program in the Greater Chicago Area.
Lt. General Pete Osman, USMC (ret.), the President and CEO of the USMC Toys for Tots Literacy Program, presented the award to Dr. and Mrs. Murphy, adding special recognition to their longtime support of the program.
“I am no longer sitting on the sidelines watching literacy stats decline in my area,” Dr. Murphy states. “Why would I, when I can do something about it? I’m doing what anyone can do. I urge everyone to join us in helping our communities turn the tides of illiteracy.”
Dr. Murphy and his wife have supported other major literacy programs, including Boys & Girls Clubs and local school and library reading programs. Their three young daughters and the young patients at his local dental practice help inspire their work in the community.
