Carl Nielsen’s beautiful Symphonies No 1 and No 4, by the New York Philharmonic conducted by Alan Gilbert, were released on SACD in September 2014. However, industry-leading DXD audio quality versions are now available for download, but only from Promates Music Store.

Promates Music Store offering Denmark’s most famous composer best known works in the best ever quality audio format.

He is best known as one of Denmark’s greatest ever composers and now  one of the famous works of Carl Nielsen have been brought to life like never before thanks to the glorious quality of DXD digital.

Famed for his skills as a violinist, conductor and composer, Nielsen was a virtuoso performer and a prolific composer who remains as popular as ever both in his home country of Denmark, as well as across Europe and the United States.

This new recording of two of Nielsen’s most elegant works are played by the world-renowned New York Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Alan Gilbert.
The first recording is of Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4 OP. 29, more commonly known as “The Inextinguishable”. This stirring piece was written against the backdrop of World War I and one of its immediately recognisable features is the battle between two sets of timpani.

Nielsen viewed this, the most recorded of all his works, as expressing humanity’s fierce will to live and such is its structure and content that it tests the skills of even the most accomplished conductor and timpanists.

The second recording available is that of Nielsen’s exquisite Symphony No.1. Widely regarded by scholars as one of the finest examples of a composer’s first symphonic effort, the work shattered many musical conventions of the time (for example, the symphony begins in the key of G-minor, but ends in C-major).

In these exciting new recordings, the New York Philharmonic have captured the true essence of Nielsen’s musical masterworks. This famous orchestra, which boasts over 15,000 performances in its lifetime across 432 cities in 62 countries, captured every nuance of Nielsen’s works and they can now be enjoyed in the finest sound quality, available for download for the very first time.

This is because both recordings were completed using the highest industry standard in audio recording: Digital eXtreme Definition (DXD).

When a piece of music is recorded in this format, every subtle nuance of the music is captured and captured digitally using state of the art DXD recording equipment. Only 400 music studios and concert halls around the world are capable of recording albums in DXD, yet despite its rarity, many albums recorded in DXD have already won many top awards.

Nielsen’s Symphony No 1 and Symphony No 4 is available at Promates Music Store in DXD (352.8kHZ/24 bit), 88 kHz/24 bit and 320 Kbps MP3 formats. While the MP3 recording is of outstanding quality, Promates is the only website where can download the recordings in the same format in which it was recorded.

This is important because using a sample rate converter to change a digital sound file into another format always has a negative impact on sound. Using the DXD format means there is no degradation in sound quality.

As a special offer, if a customer purchases the DXD or 88.2 kHZ version of the works, Promates will throw in the MP3 version free of charge so users can experience the vast difference in quality for themselves.

The SACD of Nielsen’s works as performed by the New York Philarmonic was released in September 2014, but fans wishing to receive the album in DXD, the best possible sound format, can download the DXD version directly from the official Promates website.
