Canadian adventure outfitter, Red Hat Outfitters, is collaborating with Mountains of Relief to help restore clean water systems to a Nepal community. Khatri Tole was devastated by the Nepal earthquake of 2015, and Red Hat Outfitters aims to help by providing clean drinking water.

As part of their ongoing commitment to being socially accountable, Canadian adventure outfitter brand, Red Hat Outfitters, has begun work on a project that will help the installation of clean water resources in a community in Nepal. Carried out in collaboration with Mountains of Relief, a grassroots volunteering team based in the area, they aim to help the community of Khatri Tole recover after the damage caused by natural disasters.

Getting clean water back to Khatri Tole
The Nepal earthquake of 2015 was a major catastrophe that resulted in nearly 9000 casualties as well as causing 10 billion USD in damages, displacing thousands of people, and affecting communities across much of South Asia.

Khatri Tole, Dadagaun, Dhulikhel Municipality-11, Kavrepalanchowk is one community that was deeply affected by the earthquake. Many people are still living in temporary shelters and struggling due to the loss of their existing water system.

Red Hat Outfitters and Mountains of Relief are collaborating to raise $7000 in funds for the purpose of restoring Khatri Tole’s water system. Together, they aim to purchase and install pipes, water storage tanks, electrical pumps and to dig a deep well for the community. This should restore clean drinking water to the community, as well as the former subsistence economy, which will also help the overall reconstruction efforts.

Red Hat Outfitter’s social accountability
A provider of premium adventures for working professionals that operates solely in Nepal, Red Hat Outfitters has outlined a plan to ensure they live up to their social accountability in the areas that they operate in. As such, they are currently returning a portion of their profit from every single one of their expeditions to the local grass-root causes.

Red Hat Outfitters acknowledges that they are beneficiaries and guests of the communities that they work in, and ensure that all of their trips are locally serviced by host communities. They are also committed to providing fair wages, safe work environments, and access to healthcare for all of their employees and affiliates. Their aim to restore clean water back to Khatri Tole marks the latest grassroots project they have become involved within the area.
