Calling all Phish Heads There is Only One Chance to See the Band This Year

Phish has just announced that the band will tour this summer, but there are no plans for a fall concert tour this year.

Watkins Glen, New York – April 19, 2015 – When super group Phish announced their summer tour, which includes the traditional three day festival wrap up, Phish tickets instantly began flying out the door. Phish fans, who are affectionately called Phish heads, are a loyal group, and none of them plan on missing the band when it’s touring. But this year, those fans should be aware that the band has publicly said that there will not be a fall concert tour. That means fans only have a short window of time to see the group live this year, and tickets to the Magnaball, the three day festival that ends the tour, are already sold out in most places.

The term Phish Heads was created because of the bands close similarity to the Grateful Dead, whose fans are called Dead Heads. Phish’s concert music, like the Dead’s, is a curious mix of progressive rock, hard rock, rock, blues, jazz, folk and funk, and they are known for their extended jams and musical improvisation. Rolling Stone has said that Phish has helped to “spawn a new wave of bands that are oriented around group improvisation and super-extended grooves.”

One reason fans love seeing the band live is that they create an atmosphere that includes the audience. For instance, they do what’s called the Big Ball Jam where each band member throws a big beach ball into the audience, and every time it’s hit, the band plays a note. This allows the audience to create their own unique music for the concert. In addition, the band does Rotation Jams, where members switch instruments with their fellow band member to the left of them. Fans never really know what to expect from a Phish concert, but one thing is for sure, they never leave disappointed.

Although the band doesn’t get much radio time, they have a huge following that sees them live every time they tour. That’s why tickets to the Magnaball are all but sold out. “As of today, we have thirty tickets left to the Magnaball,” said a ConcertBank spokesman. “But check back with us, as we sometimes get more as the date gets closer.” As for the rest of the tour, there are a few more tickets left. Phish will kick off their Summer 2015 tour on July 21 and 22 by playing at the Les Schwab Amphitheatre in Bend, OR, followed by two-night stands in Atlanta, GA, East Troy, WI, Philadelphia, PA and Columbia, MD. Then the three-day Magnaball will wrap up the tour at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Co August 21-23.
