One of the biggest tourism draws for Costa Rica is its beautiful tropical environment. To help preserve this resource, Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas has implemented a number of eco-friendly practices. "We use food that has been locally grown so that there is less packaging to get rid of and fewer emissions related to the transportation of the produce," said Pilurzu. "We also avoid adding restaurant waste, eggshells, and other food items to the garbage dump. Instead, we send these materials to a nearby farm, where they are used as animal feed or crop fertilizer. Any extra food waste is added to our own compost piles, which are used on our garden."
These are just some of the eco-friendly practices done by the resort. It turns out that it is so eco-friendly that plenty of wildlife proliferates there, including sea turtles, ants, and other creatures normal for the Costa Rican shoreline. The resort also makes sure to keep its nighttime lighting to a minimum. This helps preserve normal animal behaviors, but guests will find that the stunning view of the starry night sky is even more interesting to see. Without light pollution interfering with the view, the sky appears to be blanketed in stars.
