Bozeman video production company Sly Dog Production recently completed a filming project at the Bannack, Montana ghost town in conjunction with a Discovery Channel film crew from the United Kingdom.
“Recently we have provided complete crews for shows like Military Makeover but we were brought in on this project because of our reputation for drone video work”, says Rusty Squire, President of Sly Dog Production. He adds, “Our Bozeman video production company has greatly expanded its range of equipment and personnel so we are getting the bigger jobs now”.
“This year we invested in a Ronin, carbon fiber sliders, an Atomos Ninja Flame, a Sony FS5 super 35mm, several Zeiss lenses and new lighting soft boxes”, says Squire. He adds, “There was gear and personnel we needed to acquire to take our video production to the next level and we have all those pieces in place now”.
“Our goal for 2018 is to attract more high-end corporate video projects from national companies”, says Squire. He adds, “We have the personnel to make great branding videos, television ads and social media video projects, along with the in-house editing staff that use Davinci Resolve”.
A COMPLETE CREW READY TO MOBILIZE
“Our company has complete crews of cameramen, sound professionals, makeup artists, drone pilots, Lighting and all the equipment and staff ready to mobilize quickly”, says Squire. He adds, “This has given us the ability to quickly satisfy all of the crew needs and equipment needs for broadcast quality television programs”.
“Our A cameraman has decades of experience and worked for seven years on the reality show Mountain Man along with doing underwater work on the movie Titanic, the guys a rock star”, says Squire. He adds, “Brandstar has had us mobilize complete crews on barely a week’s notice, so we can move quickly with our roster of personnel”.
HOW WE SAVE PRODUCTIONS MONEY
“We are fortunate to have several individuals that are cross-trained in multiple roles, for instance, our Steady-Cam operator is also a licensed drone pilot so this means a production crew can have two skills available on a single charge to budget”, says Squire. He adds, “This saved Brandstar $800 in each of the two episodes we shot for them”.
Sly Dog Productions list of clients include Brandstar, the California State Universities, Russ Lyon’s Sotheby’s, Berkshire Hathaway, Minnesota State University, Jamestown Associates, Three Point Media and numerous local businesses. “We shoot all over the western United States, not just in Montana”, says Squire.
“It’s nice to do Montana video production projects but the reality is that our State just doesn’t have a very big population”, says Squire. He adds, “Montana does attract a lot of corporations that like the State’s image as a filming back drop but at the end of the day we still have to travel to urban centers for work”.
