Mr. Thombs will be awarded $2,500 from the Bonsai Finance team to help him further his education and cover associated expenses. Austin is the son of a highly-decorated 20+ year Marine Corps Veteran who will be pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.“We are beyond thrilled to announce Austin as this year’s scholarship winner, said Britton Smith of Bonsai Finance. “Having been named a National Merit Semifinalist, achieved perfect scores on both the ACT and SAT exams, and maintained a 4.5 GPA with the most rigorous course schedule available at his high school, our scholarship committee was especially impressed with Austin’s academic achievements. What’s more, his hard work exceeds the expectations of his coaches and colleagues outside of the classroom as well. From persevering on the football field to becoming involved in the FIRST robotics competition, his constant motivation towards excellence makes him beyond deserving of this Veterans Scholarship.”
The Bonsai Finance Veterans Scholars Award celebrates veteran and dependent students who strive for excellence in their lives. The scholarship provides a one-time payment of $2,500 for current or future education costs. To be eligible for the scholarship program, students must be a veteran or active duty member of the U.S. Military service or a direct dependent of such a person. Eligible applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who are already enrolled or will enroll at an accredited college, university, or post-graduate technical or vocational school.
