In an ongoing effort to streamline and improve business, Michelle’s Salon announced that it will be discontinuing personal care as of 2015. Residents of the north central Phoenix neighborhood close to the salon have used this beauty salon for 8 years to get convenience of service there, low prices and friendly owner.

When asked about the reasons behind the decision to end the product, Judith Leyva, owner/operator of Michelle’s Salon said,
“It seems like the right time for me to head into something a little less time-consuming, and at the same time hand off the salon to new ownership who will continue to provide an important service to the neighborhood.
Michelle’s Salon opened in December 2005, and right from the beginning became one of the most popular hair salons in Phoenix, and was able to establish a foothold in the El Monte Plaza shopping center. The salon also specialized in selling many a beauty supply. Since this commercial area is close to I-17, even residents of areas further away from this neighborhood have had easy access.
The salon did experience a downturn in business, as did just about all other occupants of El Monte Plaza, during the economic bust of 2008-2009, but saw a recent upswing as well, in spite of the ongoing construction on 19th Ave. and Dunlap due to the expansion of the light rail system in Phoenix. The light rail expansion is expected to continue throughout the next two years, and the plan is for the 19th Ave. line to extend as far north as Loop 101, and west toward the Metro Center shopping mall.
