Though flurries are set to blow through the Okanagan this weekend, it is hard to deny that spring is just around the corner. Pretty soon the residents of British Columbia’s interior will be booking those highly-sought after long-weekend camping sites and browsing through the RVs for sale in town in preparation for the warmer weather.
Though it is still February, preparation this far in advance for the camping season is a necessary evil in British Columbia, where provincial campgrounds open for reservations in March and can sell out for the year by the end of the month. In 2016, calls were made for a better system that would prevent people from buying up campsites during long weekends when they are typically at a premium, and then reselling them for a profit. As of this year, there have been no changes made to the system. And so, another year begins of planning for the camping season as early as February.
For local RV and trailer dealers, the current system simply means that they need to be prepared for the sales season to heat up a month or two earlier than it may in other provinces. RVs for sale typically begin flying off the lots in Alberta in the months of April, with peak shopping season in June. In British Columbia, by comparison, sales pick up in March and build to a peak in May that stays relatively steady until July or so.
Vernon dealership Mike Rosman RV is no stranger to the uptick, and has decided to offer an early bird sale for the first time ever to capitalize on the trend. The online-only sale will see price reductions across their entire new and used inventory, and will run from February 15 to 18. The dealership will be accepting trade-ins during the sale as well, and has a parts and service special running to complement the event.
